Join the cause! Walk To End Alzheimer's 2023

About 15 years ago, Hailey Adair's grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. As one of her grandmother's caregivers, Hailey really wanted to learn more about the disease and connect with other people going through a similar experience. That's what led her to the Alzheimer's Association of Washington and to participate in her first Walk To End Alzheimer's event! Hailey is now a proud employee, working to end Alzheimer's each and every day.

On the flip side, while Chef Ethan Stowell doesn't have a personal connection to Alzheimer's, he realizes the importance of raising awareness and research dollars. He'll be on hand for his first Walk To End Alzheimer's this year! Not only that, select Ethan Stowell Family Restaurants will help raise money all month long through special offerings on the menu.

In the meantime, Hailey met up with Ethan in his kitchen to learn how to make a dish that her grandmother, an avid gardener, would have loved, a fresh tabouleh salad with tomatoes fresh from the garden.

Home Gardener Tabbouleh Salad

Serves four people

Ingredients:

1 cup bulgur wheat

1 cup boiling water

1 cup chopped fresh tomato

1 cup of chopped cucumber

1 clove minced garlic

1 tablespoon minced red onion

2 tablespoons chopped mint

4 tablespoons parsley chopped

2 tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice

4 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

Kosher salt

Fresh ground pepper

Directions:

In a medium saucepan, combine bulgur and 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil. Stir in 1 cup of boiling water and mix thoroughly. Cover and let stand for 30 minutes in refrigerator.

Stir in chopped fresh tomato, minced garlic, minced red onion, chopped cucumber, chopped mint, chopped parsley, 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, and 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. Mix thoroughly.

Cover and chill for 1 hour or overnight. Toss well and serve on a platter or in a salad bowl. Drizzle extra virgin olive oil over the top and season with kosher salt and fresh ground pepper to taste.

Lastly, sit down and enjoy this delicious salad with your loved ones!
